Move Beyond Blaming and Shaming At Work

It is easy, and common place, to look for someone to blame when something goes wrong, but in the workplace this is an unproductive approach.

When the person at fault is identified, it is too easy to rest all the responsibility on them and keep doing things the way you always have. But blame or punishment do not equal progress. It means that you haven’t taken the opportunity to grow as a team or organisation.

Blame focuses on the individual, not the broader dynamic and what can collectively be done better. A culture of blame also makes people scared to speak up if they are unsure or have made a mistake, which diminishes outcomes overall and deflates team culture.

You can get ahead of this by building accountability into your team and processes, and I can help you lead that revitalised culture.
