Plan For Mistakes

Though it might feel like an extra step, planning for mistakes in projects or strategies will save you time in the long run.

Sure, there are risk matrixes, but they tend to only anticipate what you already know might go wrong.

Planning for mistakes means that you acknowledge that you don’t know everything, that there can be gaps in communication, and that not all members of the team are going to fully understand the plan and their directive at the outset. So take the time to invite your colleagues to open up and help identify potential problems ahead.

Support your team to ask questions of each other, as well as of you, and to explain their ideas so that you can achieve greater clarity together as you identify and troubleshoot potential issues, miscommunications and concerns.

If you are more open to the knowledge and queries of those around you, you will be more thorough in scoping and planning.
