Six Types of Everyday Courage
Leaders today face constant disruptions: geopolitical tensions, economic shocks, technological leaps, AI revolutions, social divides… the list goes on. Courage is found in the everyday challenges, as well as in dramatic crises.
Alex Budak, author and educator, describes six types of everyday courage leaders can practise:
- Moral courage – standing firm for your values, even when unpopular.
- Social courage – being genuine and vulnerable in relationships.
- Emotional courage – allowing space for real, sometimes difficult, emotions.
- Intellectual courage – being open to new ideas, even when they challenge you.
- Creative courage – trying new approaches, knowing they may not all succeed.
- Physical courage – choosing discomfort to build grit and strength.
These small acts, practised consistently, shape trust, momentum, and legacy.
