‘To live is to choose. But to choose well, you must know who you are and what you stand for, where you want to go and why you want to get there.’
– Kofi Annan
Every day leaders face choices. Some are small and almost invisible: how you start a meeting, whether you pause before responding, where you put your attention. Others carry more weight: shifting strategy, standing firm on values, embracing change that stretches you.
Choosing well starts with knowing yourself. When you are anchored in what you stand for, you hold steady through uncertainty. When you are intentional about where you want to go and why it’s important, your actions align more naturally and consistently.
I’ve seen leaders gain clarity by drawing on their anchor points; their non-negotiables, their values, and their north star.
The Stoics taught that while life is not fully in our control, our choices always are. Anchored leaders work to stay steady and then, from that place, take intentional action.
